A Life Rooted in Faith and Family
Born on September 28, 1937, in Southfield, Michigan, Joyce was the daughter of the late Marvin Logan and Elsie Elizabeth Wilson. She attended Wilson Elementary School, Taft Junior High School, and Lincoln High School before marrying the love of her life, Duane L. Nelson, in Ferndale in 1952.
Together, Joyce and Duane built a family centered on faith, perseverance, and unconditional love. They were devoted members of Fenton Church of God and enjoyed attending gospel concerts in Tennessee, sharing a lifelong commitment to their Christian faith.
Remembering Joyce Evelyn Nelson
Joyce’s greatest joy was her family. She was a loving mother to Ken (Lyne) Nelson, Alan (Cheryl) Nelson, Marie Smith, and Carol (Bill) Gray. She was also a proud grandmother to 11 grandchildren, a cherished great-grandmother to 25 great-grandchildren, and a beloved great-great-grandmother to eight.
She is further survived by her siblings, Marvin Wilson Jr., Betty Isbell, Sharon Nigro, and Linda Gauer, along with many nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Duane; her son, Leonard Nelson; and her daughters, Judy Nelson, Colleen McKeon, and Diane Nelson.
Those who knew Joyce remember her as a woman of remarkable grace whose faith never wavered. Her encouragement, generosity, and steadfast love touched generations of her family and everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Funeral and Memorial Services
Visitation will be held at Sharp Funeral Homes – Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton, Michigan, on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and again on Thursday, August 20, from 10:00 a.m. until the service.
A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 20, 2026, with Pastor Eugene Blankenship officiating. Interment will follow at White Chapel Cemetery in Troy, Michigan, at 2:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Fenton Church of God in Joyce’s honor.
